All MFR units responded along with the rest of the MFD ,Llewellyn, and Pottsville F.D.

Fire  was under control in 20 min. and damage limited to the basement

Mutual Aid to the City Of Pottsville, Pottsville Departments were working a structure fire on East Norwegian Street. MFR was dispatched for an automatic fire alarm at 512 North Centre Street. R-518, L-519, U-520 responded with 15 to 512 N. Centre Street. P-1 in command advised the alarm was false and was probably triggered by low water pressure due to the working fire on East Norwegian Street. All second alarm units where released and directed to stand by in the city for any other calls.

March 5 @ 04:05 hrs, Mutual Aid, from stand by, request from Command P-4  to the working fire on East Norwegian Street City Of Pottsville. R-518, L-519, U-520 responded with 15 to the scene. Command asked C-510 for crews with hooks to the side “C/Divisions 2 and 3” for overhaul. C-510 divided the crew up into three teams and the men went to work checking for extension and overhaul. It was determined that there was fire between the different roof types, so crews went to the roof and did further overhaul. Command marked the fire under control at approximately 05:45 hrs. M F-R cleared the scene at approximately 06:15 hrs.

Over 100 members were in attendance.

Guest speaker was  Thomas Slane, who entertained the crowd with great stories from his days as a state police fire marshall and his days growing up in Minersville .

Matt Quinn read off those members who have passed away, and a moment of silence was observed

Certificates of appreciation were given to  Thomas O’Brien, oldest member of the former Independent Hose Co., and Robert Schofstall, oldest member of the former Rescue Hook & Ladder Co.

Awards were given to Taylor Gray, Rookie FF of the year, and Joe Polinsky, Who made the most calls for 2011.

I want to take this time to say “Thank You” to Matt Quinn, Jim Doyle, and Jack Lazarchick for organizing the event.

I also want to thank All of our membership for your hard work and dedication throughout 2011

Ladder 519, Rescue 518, and Utility 520 responded. Units were  in service  about 4 hrs. and released  around 2230.                                                   

        While returning home,units were dispatched to N. Manheim township for smoke in a structure at the Buffet House ( formerly the River Inn) . The call was upgraded to a confirmed structure fire enroute.  MFR operated to the rear of the building and was in service over 5 hrs. .Multiple Fire companies from Schuylkill and Berks counties fought this stubborn blaze.

Many homes in the Delaware ave. and Penn st. areas of Minersville received excessive flooding in their basements.

Minersville Fire Rescue reponded to a call for help with evacuations in Pine Grove . Rescue 518 and  Utility 520 responded. Conditions  deteriorated rapidly, and MFR was given an assignment of assisting Rescue 993 from Mahanoy City with evacuations of trapped residents in the southern end of town near rt.695. Rescue 518 and 993 safely removed over 20 people and their pets, eventually meeting up with a  National Guard Troop carrier to safely take the residents back to Pine Grove High School, which was set up as the evacuation center.

On Sept. 9th, MFR was back in Pine Grove from 1800 hrs. till 0600 Hrs. providing fire protection , staging at the command post at Pine Grove H.S.

Minersville Fire Rescue would like to offer our Thoughts and Prayers to all those affected by the devastating flooding that hit  Pine Grove and other areas of our county and state
